Addictions

HOPE Originally developed in 2008 by Dr. Rick Carter our pastor here at Beth Haven Baptist Church, the H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Put?off Entanglements) Program serves as an exciting ministry for churches across the country and around the globe. H.O.P.E. helps those suffering in the bondage of addiction to find true recovery, and helps maintain that freedom through training and discipleship tools. The H.O.P.E. Program is a valuable asset to any church. Addiction comes in many forms. From the Holy Bible, Hebrews 12:1 states “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…” Therefore, biblically speaking, every human being (even Christians) struggles with some area of sin. HOPE BooksThe program spread within the last few years from a single church to churches all across the United States and around the globe. Churches on six continents host H.O.P.E. Programs, multiplying the great blessings of God’s Truth to multitudes world?wide. The H.O.P.E. Program at Beth Haven Baptist Church performs one simple task – the preaching of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. The program stands fast in the position that only a personal relationship with Jesus Christ grants a person the capacity to overcome addictions. Working with that capacity through teaching the Word of God provides the individual with the tools needed to succeed in life. Before a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, no ability for significant and sustained success with addiction exists. Due to this position, the program first preaches Salvation in Jesus Christ exclusively in order to bring individuals to the needed personal relationship. Secondarily, after Salvation
Version of the Bible to gain lasting victory over the addictions and entanglements that “so easily beset.” These besetting sins include addictions to alcohol, cigarettes, drugs (both illegal and prescription), pornography (as well as other sexual sins), gambling, and over?eating. It remains important to note, while many of the above listed sins may relate to physical or mental health, the program does not engage in medical advice or therapy. The H.O.P.E. program of Beth Haven Baptist Church offers a spiritual solution to a problem we believe to be rooted in a person’s spiritual condition. The Program recognizes that many individuals in the past tried “quick?fixes” and “self?help” programs without lasting results. We want to be very clear: The H.O.P.E. Program does not exist to compete with any other addictions program. We believe that other programs can and have helped many people. However, the H.O.P.E. program of Beth Haven Baptist Church differentiates itself by ignoring the concept of “self” help and trusting that true help comes from God alone, in the person of Jesus Christ. Even the name of the program is derived from the Bible, in the book of Galatians 5:1, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” We believe only one way proves to have a 100% success rate when followed as directed: Through personally knowing Christ. Notice we did not say knowing about Christ. Nominally religious and non-religious people may reject this statement, but we invite you to experience for yourself the powerful and life-changing relationship that comes from following Christ through a closer walk. A closer walk will be achieved when an individual follows the relationship principles laid out in the Bible. Placed in an easy-to-use format, these principles consist of the following three major elements. First, the Knowing Him Day by Day book – designed to strengthen your personal relationship with Christ, and to teach you how to actually walk with Him day-by-day. Second, the Formula for Life Steps – these guide you add the necessary ingredients to experience God’s promised formula for real and lasting success.
